Students, parents, and teachers, if you need any information about

Middle School Reading, this is the place to be.

ABSTRACT: Mrs. Kuhns's Wiki Page contains middle school reading websites, powerpoints, worksheets, educational games, and useful teacher resources.

I got the idea for my Wiki Page when I thought about the number of times parents have asked me, "Do you have any extra worksheets that I could use to help my child at home?" Then, I would run to the copy machine to make stacks of worksheets and answer keys to send home with the child in hopes that all my hard work made it to the parents. Through the creation of my Wiki Page, that problem, along with many others, have been answered. Now I find myself intrigued to find as many ways as possible to utilize technology in my classroom.

Technology is hands-ons and students become more involved in the learning process which makes learning more enjoyable. Using technology allows students to think outside the box providing them with new ways to learn. Some of the questions addressed in this Wiki Page include: 1) How can I use technology in my classroom/home? 2) How will technology improve my teaching? 3) How will technology help my students/children learn? 4) What technology is available? 5) What if I don't know how to use technology? To address these questions, I have provided links and videos to support some popular technology that is available, as well as, how to use the technology in your classroom/home. I have also included a variety of educational links, documents, powerpoints, and interactive games related to middle school Language Arts and reading.

My Wiki page was designed to inform students and parents on how to achieve outside of the school/classroom. This website also shows teachers how easy technology can be incorporated into the classroom to produce a positive learning environment. Technology is the future.

My Wiki contains the following pages:

  • Front Page: This page contains information about Mrs. Kuhns's Wiki Page.

  • Interactive Websites: This page includes links to fun educational games related to Language Arts and Reading. I designed this page after I got a SMART Board in my classroom, and I wanted educational websites that students could use with the SMART Board. Every Friday at the end of the day during Advisory, my students get 15 minutes of fun time to do what they want. The other day, some students were playing with their ipods and phones, but a group of students asked me, "Hey, can we get on your website and play that adjective/adverb game?" It brought a smile to my face.

  • Why Use Technology: This page includes websites that show teachers how to integrate technology into the classroom, as well as the importance of using technology in the classroom.  I have also provided some inspiring quotes from my students.

  • Vocabulary Information: This page includes vocabulary games, powerpoints, and an article that helps teachers incorporate vocabulary instruction into their curriculum.

  • Useful Websites: This page contains websites that are often inquired about from students. I also included additional websites that teachers may find beneficial for their own classrooms.

  • Videos-Games: I created this page for the students to play on as an incentive for when they do well.
